(STATE HOUSE, BOSTON, MA) — The Mass. State Legislature has given final approval to legislation filed by Rep. Josh Cutler and Sen. Vinny deMacedo to allow the town of Pembroke to borrow funds for sidewalk construction.
The bill, H. 4346, authorizes the town to issue $820,000 in bonds for a term up to 20 years. The funds will be used for the construction of a sidewalk on Hobomock Street from Learning Lane to Center Street. The project was originally approved by Pembroke Town Meeting voters in 2016. Legislative approval was required because the Town Meeting article called for long-term bonding.
“I’m grateful that we were able to get this important local bill through the legislature in a timely matter to aid the town in its goal of adding sidewalks near our school area,” said Rep. Cutler.
“I am thankful that the Legislature was able to assist the Town of Pembroke as they work to improve their infrastructure and secure funding for this important public works project,” said Senator Vinny deMacedo (R-Plymouth).
The bill was originally filed May 26, 2016 and was given a favorable report by the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government in June. It was passed by the House in August and the Senate in December and formally enacted and sent to the governor on January 3 of this year. Governor Baker officially signed the bill into law yesterday, January 11th, 2017.
Rep. Cutler is represents the Sixth Plymouth District in the House and Sen. deMacedo represents the Plymouth and Barnstable District in the State Senate.
