The emerging role of blockchain technology is the focus of a new legislative caucus co-founded by Rep. Josh S. Cutler and Rep. Kate Lipper-Garabedian.
The caucus will explore the role that blockchain and other forms of distributed ledger technologies could have on public policy in Massachusetts. An initial meeting will be held on Monday, November 8, with experts from the Mass Technology Collaborative.
Rep. Cutler and Rep. Lipper-Garabedian plan a series of future briefings on different aspects of blockchain technology and their implications for state policymakers. The bipartisan caucus is open all House members.
The mission of the Caucus is to serve as a forum for members to review, educate and foster consensus on matters relating to blockchain technology in the Commonwealth. This includes exploring the use of blockchain technology in state and local government, potential privacy risks, the impact on state revenues, impacts on the workforce and the future of work, financial considerations and virtual currencies, barriers to entry, best practices in use by government and businesses, organizations equipped for oversight, and other key issues important to our communities statewide.
“This is an emerging industry that is filled with possibilities –– from digital currencies and financial services to supply chain management, asset tracking, and even digital artwork,” said Rep. Cutler. “Massachusetts is a leader in the bio-tech, health care, and higher ed fields and we should leverage these advantages and our skilled workforce to ensure that we remain a competitive force in this developing industry.”
